Sex & Camping
Sex & Camping is a 38-minute romantic comedy that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the Short Film Corner. The film is available on DVD at the link below and streams on the IndieFlix portal. The film was a far stretch from the originally conceived ten-minute short. One afternoon on the set at Sesame Street Adam Matalon and Kevin Burke decided it would be fun to try to shoot a film in a weekend and started thinking about ways to accomplish this. Adam and Kevin wrote a 9 page short in the next few days about a thirty something couple in marriage therapy whose therapist sent them on a particularly ridiculous weekend jaunt. Three weeks later we got through the first three scenes and finished the weekend a little under whelmed with our efforts. What followed was a re-conception based on the original theme and out of it came a 45 page script which was clearly not really a short and not quite a feature. We ploughed ahead and allocated 10k to the project.
IThree months later we began shooting the script having put together a really great young cast and crew. Adam has two favorite favorite recollections of the film: The first was at the bank cashing a check for 5K cash with the memo ‘for sex and camping’ and, shooting the Nadine sex scene; when he looked out the window from the very hot closed set to see several PAs surrounded by neighbors who, having heard the screams of rampant sex coming from an upper bedroom window were wondering what kind of film was being made? With the live action portion of the film complete Adam and Kevin spent two days with two dolls shooting driving scenes, camping scenes and finally, a sex scene during which they realized they were voicing the sounds of doll sex! Awkward! Check out the links to the trailer and the press pack. There are rumors of developing the film as a full feature. We’ll see what happens.
